Park City will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a carnival and parade this weekend. "We invite all residents to come celebrate at Limbrunner Park. Bring the family and have a good time," said Mayor Steve Pannell.
Park City, sandwiched between Waukegan and Gurnee, was incorporated on Jan. 28, 1958. Its first mayor was Gene Palmieri, father of current Ald. Jack Palmieri. The city's population is 6,700.
The festival will get under way at 4 p.m. Friday at Limbrunner Park on Teske Boulevard. In addition to a carnival with rides, there will be games and food vendors featuring pizza, tacos, corn-on-the-cob, gyros and other treats.
Saturday's parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Teske Boulevard and will feature a veterans color guard, fire engines, squad cars, elected officials, and other dignitaries, along with antique cars and classic motorcycles. The carnival will open again following the parade. There will be fireworks after dark at Limbrunner Park Saturday, sponsored by the city.
