TOURISM: Kenosha realizing record-high tourist revenues

WLIP News:
As predicted, the Kenosha area has surpassed all previous tourism-related revenues again. In 2007, Kenosha derived about $224.6 million from visitors coming here for such amenities as HarborPark, the streetcar line (which 27 percent of all tourists used), shopping and restaurants - even though statewide tourism was down by 1.4%.
The figures were compiled by the Wisconsin Department of tourism using data from surveys, telephone interviews and information from area hotels and motels. Illinois provided the greatest majority of tourists. Other Wisconsin communities came in second place in supplying visitors here.
The current year will probably surpass the 2007 record year as the Civil War museum opens in June.
Other important tourist draws last year included the Danskin Womens Triathlon.
The equivalent of 5,267 fulltime jobs were created by the growing tourism industry here in 2007. |
