About the Show
"Plant Chatter" is an hour-long Saturday morning "call-in" gardening show on WLIP-AM. Host Dick Lesko and co-host Bill Lawrence bring early morning listeners up-to-the minute weather information, and chronicle events, past and present, so as to keep their listeners on the cutting edge of what is happening in the WLIP-AM listening area.
The main thrust of the "Plant Chatter" show is to answer listener's horticultural related questions live on the WLIP studio phone line, (262) 694-1050. Recognizing the fact that gardeners are early risers, "Plant Chatter" is a regular conversation starter at many Saturday morning breakfast tables. Special guests are featured on the program from time to time and are available to join in answering listener's questions.
In the second half of the program, the ever-popular "Brain Buster Horticultural Question of the Week" challenges everyone's knowledge of garden and plant information with valuable prizes awarded weekly.
"Plant Chatter", in it's second year at 8am on Saturday mornings, kicks off the WLIP-AM Saturday morning locally produced programming schedule providing our audience that extra "Life" to get their weekend off to a rousing start.
About the Host
Richard Lesko is your Host for "Plant Chatter" the weekly Saturday morning gardening show on WLIP-AM 1050. Dick has spent his entire career in the horticultural field dealing with all aspects of selection, growing, planting and caring for both agricultural and ornamental plants.
His "hands-on" knowledge is available to WLIP-AM listeners thru this popular "call-in format" show, which provides informative (at times amusing) common sense answers to all his listeners gardening questions.
Drawing on his 42 years of retail experience, owning his own Garden Center, he said, "What I love best about my career is the interaction between myself and my customers, which I carry over to "Plant Chatter" our Saturday program."
Dick was born and raised in the Kenosha area, attended local schools including countless horticultural courses completed thru the University of Wisconsin program. He was a former chairman of the Somers Town Plan Commission as well as 2 terms as the Somers Municipal Judge, and a former member of the Wisconsin State Board of Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education. Locally, he has been an instructor in the Master Gardener Certification Program for the UW extension in Kenosha County. He is a former president of the Midwest Garden Center Symposium and is currently on the executive board of that organization. |
